Jane Fonda

Jane Fonda looks amazing at 72 years old!  She admits to having plastic surgery (She just had her eyes, chin and neck tightened).   Jane also admits that money is important to keep yourself looking good as you age.  (Can't get the surgery without the money!)  When asked  "What do you see when you look in the mirror?"  She answers..."Good Work!"

No Joy In Yoga (written by Cindy Clarke)

Me?  Shallow?  Hmm.  I wasn't always this way.  There was a time when I was on my own spiritual path.  I was connecting to nature.  I smelled the roses, hugged a few trees.  I was on good terms with the universe.  I collected small buddha's, placing them around my house and rubbing their bellies for good luck.   I went to psychics and transcendentalists and received messages from the other side.  I attended "do good" and "feel good" seminars.  I complimented strangers.  At Broadway shows I would often give up my spot on the ladies room line to anyone who was squeezing their legs tighter than mine.  I even ate lots of iron rich vegetables and drank smoothies.  Bergdorf Goodman was no longer calling my name.  I discovered Canal Street.  I was on a journey, and doing quite well with it.  But then something happened.  I decided to take up  yoga.

"Ladies, we're nowhere without our friends."

And these friendship bracelets say it in style.

1. Multi Gold
  2. Amber Gold
3. Blue Silver

These easy, yet elegant bracelets sparkle with glass beads and gemstones.  Adjustable lengths easily slip over the hand onto the wrist, with no clasp needed. Keep it simple with one; pile on the style with a few. Friendship bracelets are great gifts to celebrate the women you love (including yourself, of course).

Retin-A is considered the Gold Standard for skincare.   It clears up acne, smoothes fine lines and increases collagen production.  This doctor prefers glycolic acid peels.  ( probably because he makes more money doing peels than prescribing Retin-A).  I use Retin-A micro.  Has anyone tried Retin-A or glycolic acid peels at their dermatologists office?

Beyond Creams, Scrubs and Serums

Plump it up!
Do you ever wonder how the stars over fifty look so young.  There, of course, are many contributing factors.  Lifestyle I would say is probably the number one factor.  Definitely eating right and exercising.  Getting enough sleep.  Having good relationships with family and friends.  Staying out of the sun and using sunscreen!  Make-up application is also key! (please read my post on make-up)  What else do these celebs do for their skin?

  •   Beyond creams, scrubs and serums there are Injectable Fillers. The most popular are the hyaluronic - acid fillers such as Restylane and Juvederm.  These fillers plump up moderate to deep wrinkles.  Restylane and Juvederm are used for  the nose to mouth lines as well as around the mouth.  Because these two fillers are non-animal based risk of allergic reaction is supposed to be eliminated.   Results last from three to six months.
  •   Botox is used for relaxing lines around the eyes and forehead.  Botox paralyzes the muscles beneath the wrinkles.  Again, results last from three to six months.
  •   Fraxel laser (skin resurfacing). This laser treatment works deep within the skin and it will increase collagen production which will in turn plump up your skin.
  •   Chemical Peels  (This is the only procedure that I have had so far.  I had a mild peel. It really does freshen your skin and clear up any acne that you might have.  Expect your skin to peel and flake for about a week after the procedure.)
  •    Thermage (skin - tightening)  This procedure interests me the most.  Tightening the skin without an invasive surgical procedure.  I have read that the results are wonderful but the procedure is a little uncomfortable.  Results are seen after the first treatment and continue to improve in the days to follow.

These procedures are costly and can possibly have side effects so research is extremely important to help you find a doctor who will help you attain the best results.

What I Know For Sure

"Life is an open door to all that is possible. And that's a powerful thing." states Oprah in the October issue of "The Oprah Magazine".

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October = Breast Cancer Awareness.
Breast Cancer is the most common cancer besides skin cancer among women. Every 3 seconds someone is diagnosed with Breast Cancer. I was one of them. But I was one of the lucky ones. Mine was non-invasive (stage 0). "Stage 0 is carcinoma in situ, early stage cancer that is confined to the ducts or the lobules, depending on where it started. It has not gone into the tissues in the breast nor spread to other organs in the body.

Ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS): This is the most common type of noninvasive breast cancer, when abnormal cells are in the lining of a duct. DCIS is also called intraductal carcinoma. DCIS sometimes becomes invasive cancer if not treated."
I had a lumpectomy followed by six weeks of radiation therapy. After that I took Tamoxifen for five years. I wasn't very good at taking the Tamoxifen. Whenever I didn't feel good I blamed it on the Tamoxifen. That was kind of stupid. Well that was 10 years ago.
There is talk that the guidelines for mammograms is changing to get a baseline mammography starting at 50 years old. Well if that was the case back 11 years ago then I would not be here because my breast cancer was diagnosed when I was 45.
So ladies please keep up with your mammograms and sonograms. Early detection is so important! I have to yell at myself because I am overdue for a Breast MRI. I am going to get one right after my mammogram and sonogram which is this month.
There are so many ways that we can give to such a charitable cause. Here are just a few......

Check out "The Oprah Magazine" for October......So many great buys to support a great cause!!!!

Ladies, please visit my 2011 post for Breast cancer awareness here.
