No More Gray!

Hi Ladies......
I know that I just did a post on embracing our gray hair.  Well, I do embrace my gray hair when it arrives, but then I have to unembrace it.  I can't look at it and I must get rid of it!  I know many women that really embrace their gray hair. And it is beautiful!   But I can't.  I have to color my hair.  I either go to the salon or color at home.  The salon gets costly.  Seems that I need to have my hair colored every three weeks.  Actually sooner, but I can let it go to three weeks.
Enter......a pill to get rid of my gray hair?  Sounds crazy and too good to be true.  No more salon visits?  No more being asphyxiated in my small bathroom as I put that dye on my head?!?  Well, ladies, it does exist and many people, both women and men, are using it.  And seeing amazing results!  It is called "Go Away Gray" by a company called Rise and Shine.  The developer of the product is Cathy Beggan.

The following words are from the website of Rise and Shine.
Go AWAY Gray is specially formulated to prevent and reverse unwanted gray hair. Based on recent scientific studies, low levels of the enzyme Catalase in your body can turn your hair gray. Hydrogen peroxide is naturally produced by the body and Catalase breaks it down. If you are not producing enough Catalase, the hydrogen peroxide cannot be broken down. This causes the hydrogen peroxide to bleach the hair from the inside out, making it gray. Go AWAY Gray contains the enzyme Catalase, along with other special nutrients to reverse and prevent gray hair and to also promote thicker, healthier hair! Take Go Away Gray today and watch your gray go AWAY!

With ingredients like Vitamin B6, folic acid, saw palmetto and L-Tyrosine, Beggan claims it's "absolutely 100 percent safe".
The verdict is still out on that claim!
Jay Foster, a nutritional biochemist of Body Chemistry Associates in Miami says that  too much L-Tyrocine can be a problem for people who take medication for high blood pressure and thyroid disease.

I am reading that people are loving this product.  But even all natural can be harmful to your body.  I wouldn't take these pills without clearance from a medical professional.  Something that is going to be strong enough to turn my gray hair brown or blonde again,  (or whatever color it really is, I can't remember),  sounds a little scary to me!  But who knows, maybe one day we will all be popping these pills and gray hair will be a thing of the past!

Healthy Hair

  Hi Ladies.......
The health and condition of our hair has so much to do with what is going on inside of our bodies.  And that has everything to do with what we put into our bodies.  Following is a list of nutrients and the foods that you can get them from.

Protein.....is the building block of hair.  Hair is 88% protein.  Protein will give your hair strength.
                sources:  salmon, poultry, eggs
Vitamin B.....lack of B vitamins can lead to oily hair conditions.
sources:  green vegetables, beans, sunflower seeds, nuts and peas
Vitamin C....strengthens the immune system, and assists in metabolizing B vitamins and amino acids
into the body.  Lack of vitamin C can cause dry hair.
sources:  oranges, melons, berries, lemons, limes, red peppers, kale, tomatoes and cucumbers
Vitamin A.....a lack of Vitamin A can cause dry hair.
sources:  carrots, sweet potatoes, squash. broccoli cantaloupe or apricot
Iron..........is needed to help carry oxygen to the hair.
sources:  eggs, fish, liver, oysters, meat, poultry, whole grains, green leafy vegetables and
                blackstrap molasses
Copper.....is needed for hair structure and is involved in the pigmentation of hair.
sources:  milk, bread and green vegetables
Zinc.........a lack of Zinc can lead to hair loss.  Zinc is necessary for building hair protein.
sources:  oysters, nuts, oats, eggs, butter and kidney beans
Water.......makes up one-fourth of the weight of a strand of hair.  Water is necessary to nourish healthy
                hair.
Essential Fats....healthy hair needs two essential fatty acids - omega-3 and omega-6 - these are not
produced naturally by the human body.
Omega-3 fat sources:  flax oil, algae, cold-water fish, dark-green vegetables, hemp oil and
               pumpkin seed oil
Omega-6 fat sources:  borage, evening primrose oil, safflower oil, sunflower seeds, hemp
               seeds, corn and pumpkin seeds

Ladies......if you choose the right foods to eat you will have beautiful hair!

Hair Length

Hi Ladies,
Used to be when you turned thirty you had to cut your hair. Actually years before that it was even younger. I remember my mom telling me that she cut her long hair in her early twenties because she became a mother. It is not like that anymore. I certainly don't agree with those rules. No one has the right to dictate to us how we should wear our hair. I feel what goes for fashion also applies to our hair. Look in the mirror. How does your hair look?  Does your haircut fit your lifestyle? Is it easy for you to manage? I don't do well with change. I have long hair for many, many years. I have on occasion cut it a little shorter only to grow it longer again. I do need some sort of bangs. I don't have a great forehead. I always felt that I needed hair close to my face to hide features that I didn't like. I am learning that it is more flattering to brush hair away from your face and also give it some height. Layers also work well. This actually flatters your jawline more than bringing your hair towards your face. I do believe that if you have very thin hair then a shorter cut is more flattering. I think that haircolor should make you happy. I hate when my hair is gray. My hair starts to turn gray about 2 weeks after it is dyed. I don't go to the salon each time because it is costly. I do use in between salon visits "Root Touch-up" by Clairol. It is so easy to use and it works. I like my hair to be a light to medium brown base with golden highlights. I have skin on the pale side. What hair color do you use? What length is your hair? Ladies, I know that I am giving a little hair advice here but wear your locks the way you want. My hair is considerably thinner then it used to be but hey I still can wear it long and I will for as long as I can! Do try to use a good conditioner and hair serum to keep hair shiny and healthy looking. Ladies......I always look to the beautiful celebs over 50 to see how they are wearing their hair. I realize that they have done a LITTLE more than just coloring and cutting their hair (we'll have to discuss those options another time!) Talk soon........Elyse Rose

Hair Loss

Hi Ladies,
When I was a young girl my father would thin my hair with a thinning scissor. My hair was thick and it would get so knotty. I did complain about my hair throughout the years because it was also very, very frizzy. I always dreamed of walking in the rain or swimming and not having my hair frizz. Well, that was then and now is now.............when I turned 50 (a little more than 6 years ago) my hair started to thin. You wouldn't notice because I had so much hair. So I ignored it until recently. Within the past few months I have been examining my hair and I have been noticing that I can see my scalp too easily. A few weeks ago I was blowing out my hair and I noticed that I blew it out in 15 minutes! Well, that job used to take 1 hour!!!! Okay, time to take action! I went to the dermatologist who suggested that I start using Minoxidil and to also start taking a Biotin Supplement. I am fortunate that I started with a lot of hair but I am going to follow this treatment so I don't lose any more and hopefully some will grow back!

Hair Loss over the age of 50 is very common. Female hair loss is different than male hair loss. A woman's hair will thin while a man will get a receding hairline and large bald spots. As long as hair loss does not happen all of a sudden with patchy spots and stress can be ruled out then thinning hair is just part of aging......WHICH WE LADIES ARE DOING BEAUTIFULLY........so if your thinning hair bothers you as mine did then see your dermatologist. Hair loss can be reversed and stopped!
