What is Your Color Season?

                                                                                                                                     By Michele I.

Everyone has a color season that matches their features. Spring, Winter, Summer or Autumn.  What do I mean by features?  Skin tone, hair color, eye color, etc.  Ever notice how certain colors flatter you more?  This is because of your personal color story.

Below is a video explaining the differences between the seasons:

Summer:
People with "Summer" coloring are usually natural blondes, although extremely pale-skinned brunettes with pale blue eyes are also sometimes considered Summers.  Usually a Summer's skin tone is very fair; either porcelain white, or pale with pink cheeks. Let's start with your True Summer neutrals.  As a True Summer, you look great in dark grey, dark green, soft white (such as seashell), light blue grey and darker blue colors.  (For Summer makeup click here)

Spring:
Springs are warm-toned, meaning gold jewelry looks better on them than platinum or silver.  Their eyes are light to medium in darkness and are usually shades like clear blue, bright green, hazel, or light grey. Springs have a sort of golden aura to them.  True Spring's best colors are usually warm greens, yellows, orangey reds, very peachy pinks and every shade of light brown from tan to palest beige.  (For Spring makeup click here)

Winter:
The winter color season skin tones are cool, like fair, light, medium, tan, dark, and deep. Winters will usually have a much higher level of contrast between their features than the other color seasons. Many people of color fall into the winter color season.  A True Winter color palette is full of cool based jewel-tones like ruby red, sapphire blue, and emerald green. Winter types also get such classic neutrals – they look beautiful in black, crisp white, and navy to name a few. A true Winter palette is full of colors that lean crisp, cool, and highly saturated.  (For winter makeup click here)

Fall/Autumn:
True Autumn's primary aspect is warm.  Thus, the color palette sits at the warmest end of the hue scale. This means the colors contain yellow undertones but no blue undertones at all.  Consequently, you will find very few shades of blue (which is the coolest color of all).  If you're an autumn type, you'll find your muted yet rich coloring means you look better in dark, earthy colors, like mustard, olive green and burgundy.  (For Autumn makeup click here)

Pretty flowers

Last night I went grocery shopping at the local "Stop and Shop."  They had the most beautiful flowers for sale so I had to stop and take a few pics.

Spray Tan

This past Saturday my niece took a course in how to give a spray tan.  She needed two "guinea pigs" for the course.  That would be my daughter and me!  The course was in SOHO at "Brazil Bronze glow bar."  I was a little apprehensive because I have heard in the past negative things about the chemicals that were used for spray tans.  This particular spray tan uses all natural and 100% organic ingredients. NO chemicals!!!  Totally safe!  In fact, it is totally safe for pregnant women.  I don't like chemicals so that was really important to know.  If it wasn't all natural there is no way I would have volunteered.
So, ready for our tans.  I went first.  I changed into an old bra and bathing suit bottom.  I took a before pic which at this moment I am still deciding if I want to post.   You are guided to stand in certain positions.  Nothing uncomfortable.  The solution is a little on the cold side.  If you are being sprayed in the winter the room should definitely be warm.  The instructor sprayed me one time and my niece with her guidance sprayed me the second time.  When it was my daughter's turn my niece was confident to spray her both times. (you get two coats)
When you are done you are pretty dark.  You look like you spent a week on a beach.  It's a little sticky.  Not too bad.  When I got home that night I showered.  A lot of the color runs off you when you shower and you are left with a really nice looking tan.  Not too dark, not orange, just a really nice bronze glow!  Your tan is supposed to last for a week.  I will let you know.
I would definitely do it again!  A great way to start the Spring and Summer.  Great for a special event.  You will look slimmer and toned!
If anyone in the Long Island area is interested please email me and I will give you the info.  My niece did great and I would absolutely let her spray me again!!!

Ok, I posted part of me.  Just wanted to show you the difference.

update: day 3 and I am still tan.
update: day 9 and I still have a slight tan!

Just wanted to say hello.

I haven't been blogging too much lately.  I have a lot going on in my life, one of which is that we are moving.  After having lived in our home for 23 years, needless to say,  there is much packing to do.  We are donating a lot of clothes.  My daughter and I never throw out clothes.  She says we have to spread the love around.
I love blogging and appreciate my readers from all over the world.  I will post from time to time but not as much as usual for the month of August.  I hope to resume regular posting in September.  Have a great weekend and enjoy the rest of the summer!   xoxo elyse

A cute story!

Yesterday I was at the beach and I met my friend in the ladies' room.  It was extremely hot and she seemed kind of annoyed at something.  She then started telling me the funniest thing that had happened to her.  I have to share it with you.
My friend said that she started to put on her bathing suit in the morning.  It was a tankini.  She had just wore it a couple of days ago.  But when she put it on it was soooo tight.  She couldn't understand it.  Her boobs were overflowing and she was really puzzled.  Even though it felt so tight she wore it anyway.
She went to the beach with her husband.  So she was not alone.  They were sitting on the beach and she was really uncomfortable in her bathing suit.  She went to scratch her back and felt a bump.  It was the cups to her bathing suit.  She put it on backwards!!!  She was walking around on the beach with boobs in front and boobs in back and her husband didn't notice.  Maybe her husband didn't tell her because men like boobs wherever they are! Doesn't matter front or back (typical man).
When I met her she had just finished turning her top around.  She really made me laugh.  I asked her if I could post her little story.  She said "yes, but please don't use my name!"

Jantzen Swimwear from the fifties

It is amazing to look at these advertisements from the 1950's.
You can see where the whole Barbie Doll, no waist, figure comes from.  Something that was just always embedded in our brains of what we should look like.  Although  we should exercise and eat right (which I don't always do) to keep off extra weight so we can be healthy.  What do you think of these ads?

Labor Day Weekend

Hi Ladies,
This weekend marked the official end to summer.  What a pretty summer!  We really did have great weather.  As always, it goes way too fast!  How was your summer?  When I was not working I spent my time at the beach.  Did you do anything special this summer?

                                                            The last few beach days.

It was a perfect day to fly a kite!

Putting away the lifeguard chair

Me, not wanting to leave my locker!
It was a beautiful summer!

Even though this was the close of the beach club there is so much going on at Long Beach!  They are having a surfing competition!  I got a glimpse yesterday afternoon and hopefully will go Sunday to see the surfers compete.  I will post pics!

I'm nowhere near ready for the fall!

I love the summer, love the warm weather and the beautiful flowers all around.  In no way do I want to rush the season.  As I look all around me there are some signs of fall.  In CVS all of the school supplies are on the shelves.  All of the neighborhood children are home from summer camp.  So, I am not going to dwell on the fact that school starts for many in a couple of weeks.  I am going to continue loving the summer days and nights.

Another sign that my precious summer is moving quickly is the fall fashion that is all around.  The fashion industry is famous for rushing the seasons.   As I was browsing around I found, what I think, are some way out there shoe styles.  I'm not endorsing these styles.  I do not think I could even walk in them!  I just wanted to post what some of the designers are showing.  I think a little wild and crazy to say the least!  But who am I to judge?  What do you think?

I really think that these styles are so impractical.  There is only one style that I might consider.  Can you guess which one? (maybe two!)
Ladies, I promise that I will post styles that we would love.  This was kind of just for fun.

Have a happy summer weekend.  Enjoy the warm breezes!
