Non-dating!

I had the best time yesterday!  I went on a non-date!  I went out for lunch and a walk with a man that I am not dating.  We are just friends.  I do like him and maybe I would rather be on a regular date with him but that is just not going to happen any time soon!  So non-dating it is!
Well, there is a lot to be said for non-dating.  You don't have to get obsessive with your hair and make-up.  It doesn't really matter what you wear.  You can go on a last minute date without showering!  You are not being judged, approved or disapproved!  It's not a real date!
We went for a really nice walk.  I could basically talk about anything I wanted to because I didn't have to impress this man.  So I showed him the prettiest house that we were passing and told him that I would love to live in that particular house.  But, then I changed my mind when I saw a smaller, cozier one with a fenced in yard for my dog!  I asked him if he could please buy the house for me.  I could ask him anything.  We are non-dating!
Then we went for lunch.  He treated.....the gentlemanly thing to do.  I sort of offered but kind of knew that he would treat.  If he let me pay I would have been upset on this non-date.  We went for Chinese food.  It was so good!  And he said "this is a non-date so you can drink your soup from the bowl"  (plastic take-out bowl).  Well I did and I felt so comfortable eating with him because whether he likes me or not, it doesn't matter.  We are non-dating!
I think I know most of the dating rules but I am still trying to figure out the rules of non-dating.  Does one kiss after a certain number of non-dates?  Does that make it a date?  Well,  I guess only time will tell and a few more non-dates!  We did hug good-bye and I did ask him to take me to the Bahamas for a non-date vacation!  I can ask for anything!  He will probably say no but who knows.......one day he might say "Yes!"

Did you ever go on a non-date?

p.s.  for all of you non-daters out there here is a song of inspiration for you........

My Dad's Special Birthday Celebration.

This New Year's Eve my Dad has a special Birthday.  It is so true when they say that it is just a silly number.    My Dad should teach a course in how to live life to the fullest!  My Dad is passionate about his work, his family, and his golf game.  This past Saturday my family hosted a Birthday lunch in his honor.  It was a surprise and he most definitely was surprised!  My sisters and brother and cousin (who is like a brother) and I made toasts to my Dad.  It was a beautiful intimate lunch with our family and my Dad's close friends.  Happy Birthday Dad!

                        My Dad was really surprised!
My first pic is very blurry...sorry.

Very blurry again (sorry) but very happy!

My cousin who is really my second brother.

My 40 year high school reunion.

This past Saturday night was my reunion.  Some words that I can use to describe it are surreal, amazing and magical!!!  I had the best time!  To see classmates that I have not seen in 40 years was beyond special!!!  Like traveling back in time (something that I always want to do and I actually did it Saturday night.)  We wore our graduation photos with our names.  A good idea when you didn't know who someone was.  Our class was 619 students.  I did not know all of them.
From the minute I walked in.....well you couldn't even walk in because immediately you would see someone and then someone else and then someone else.......you started talking to one person then another.  It was almost impossible to stay with one conversation.  You want to see everyone but that was also impossible.  Too many people and too short a time.  Everyone was so genuinely friendly and grateful to be there.  We are truly friends forever!
If your high school has a reunion you won't regret going!  Even the people that were hesitant about going had the best evening.  xoxo elyse

Have a great weekend.

This is the weekend my graduating class has been waiting for.  We have all been talking on Facebook for I think close to two years.  I am going to see people that I have not seen in 40 years.  Crazy!!!  We will be wearing name tags with our high school yearbook pic on it.  I guess that will be very helpful.  I am really looking forward to the night.  Can't wait to see you Class of 1972!!!!

High School friends

Lawrence High School in Cedarhurst, N.Y.

I just got back from dinner with an old friend.  Actually we are "new" friends.  You see we went to high school together but were not really friends in high school.  I knew who Ann was but we were not friends.  We found out that we had mutual friends back in high school.
Well, fast forward forty years.  Yes forty years.  This coming  October is my 40th year High School reunion.  I find that very hard to believe especially since I am only 35! (guess I'm lying a little.)  Well to get things going for our reunion a committee was formed and a facebook page was started.  One by one people are joining our school page.  Most names we haven't heard in years.  It's funny, back in high school we were friends in groups.  I guess it is like that even now for high school kids.  There are always clicks of friends.  Now forty years later there are no clicks or groups.  We are all friends.  And it is really nice!
So I've been talking to my classmates and reminiscing. We all have a common bond.  We spent our high school years together.  We were hippies, flower children, Viet Nam War protestors, bra burners and privileged to listen to the best music ever!
Where do you begin to talk after forty years.  We talked about previous high school reunions.  I went to the ten year reunion.  Ann went to the thirty year.  We talked about our old friends.  Who we were friends with in high school.  Who we have spoken to or seen recently.  We talked about all the talk on facebook.  We talked about our children, our families, our jobs. We talked about what nostalgia we could contribute to our upcoming reunion powerpoint for everyone to enjoy.
I brought an album of nostalgia that somehow I had saved over the years through all the moves that I have made.  We looked through the album and reminisced. I had a calendar from 1971-1972 among other things.  I saved my original playbill from "Hair."  I was telling Ann about one of my high school friends that I have been searching for and cannot find.
We weren't friends in high school and forty years have passed but we had so much to talk about.
At the end of dinner we both said what a great time we had and that we would get together again very soon.  And almost at the same time we both said that the older we get the more that we realize how important it is to have girlfriends.  Ladies, it is so important.  We have so much in common and we need each other's friendship and support.  So, call an old friend from high school and go for dinner.  You will be so happy that you did!

p.s. I look forward to being with all of my classmates again!!!

Quote by Lady Nancy Astor

Nancy Langhorne Shaw(later Lady Nancy Astor) in 1906 around the time of her                                                                          engagement to Waldorf Astor

I refuse to admit that I am more than 52, even if that makes my children illegitimate.
~ Lady Nancy Astor ~

This quote is from a while back. It really doesn't hold true for today. Being over fifty is a great place to be. There are so many ways to stay fit and healthy. Fifty is the new 30!!! Well, that is what I hear. So let's prove that true! Yes we might have a few more aches and pains then we did 20 years ago but we are going to make our bodies stronger. If we stretch and do resistance training we will have less of those aches and pains! Also, let's eat better! No more fried food. It is artery clogging and makes you gain weight. Ladies we need to have healthy hearts. We can have them by eating right and exercising and NOT SMOKING! Also it is so important to have a friend. The older I get the more I realize how important it is to have a girlfriend to talk to. Even if you are married or dating it is still important to have contact with someone who can relate to you and the interests that we as women over fifty have. When I was younger I really didn't care if I had any girlfriends. I thought that it was only important to have a man in my life. Now that I am 56 years young I have to say that it is important to have a friend!
